Your Android phone already has everything a video chat needs: a front camera, a microphone and a modern browser. This walk-through takes you from a blank Chrome tab to your first conversation, with nothing to download.

Getting Connected in a Few Taps

Open Chrome, or any up to date Android browser, and go to randomchat.io. Tap the button to start a random video chat. You now have two ways in:

Next, Chrome asks to use your camera and microphone. Tap Allow. A camera is required for video, so if you tap Block by mistake, tap the icon left of the address, open Permissions and switch the camera back on. If that setting is greyed out, open your phone settings, go to Apps, then Chrome, then Permissions.

Once your preview shows up, you are placed in the queue and matched one-on-one for a random video call. If nobody matching your choice is free within about 30 seconds, you are connected with anyone, so you never sit waiting forever.

Getting the Most Out of It on Android

On a phone, the partner fills the screen and your own picture sits in a small tile in the corner. To move on, tap Next or simply swipe up on the video. Messages appear as bubbles, and you can type while the call continues.

For quick access, open the Chrome menu and choose “Add to Home screen”. You get an icon that opens the site like an app, which is about as close to a random video call free app as you need. Our page on the random video chat app explains how this works on different phones.

A few Android habits make every video chat smoother. Turn off battery saver while chatting, because some phones throttle the camera and network in that mode. Use Wi-Fi when you can, and close other apps that might grab the camera, such as a messaging app on a call.

If someone breaks the rules, tap Report; reports are reviewed by humans. Your partner never sees your IP address, because the connection is relayed through RandomChat’s servers. When you are ready, start a video chat and enjoy video chat with strangers from the phone in your pocket. It even fits a free live video chat online during a coffee break. A random cam session is only ever a swipe away.
